Induction cooktop board repair is electronic work done with the cooktop upside down on a padded surface. One or two power boards drive the coils, each switching large currents many thousands of times a second, and a small interface board links them to the touch control. Boards fail from heat and from voltage spikes; coils rarely fail, but the thermistor bonded under each coil can crack or lose contact, and the unit then shuts that zone down to protect itself. The technician reads any stored code, measures the board outputs, the coil windings and the sensors, and checks the fan and the air path, because a new board in a cooktop that still overheats is a repeat visit waiting to happen. Why? Many induction cooktops pair zones on one power board, so a single board failure takes out both. That pattern points strongly at the board rather than at the coils. ### Can a power board be repaired rather than replaced? Soldering on these high-current boards is not a dependable repair. The board is replaced as a unit, matched to the model and the production run printed on the rating plate. ### Why did the breaker trip the moment I started a zone? A shorted component on a power board draws a surge the instant it switches on. Leave the breaker off, because resetting it again and again can damage the rest of the board and the wiring. ### Is it worth fixing an older induction cooktop? It depends on the part. A sensor, a fan or one board on a model whose parts are still made is usually worthwhile.
