What E5
actually means.
On a Wolf CE electric cooktop, E5 is a relay error. The relays switch power to the radiant elements, so a relay problem can leave an element dead or unable to switch off cleanly.

What to do when E5 shows on the cooktopKind of codeRadiant elements
A ribbon element under the glass, or a coil on an older top, did not heat the way its control asked, or kept heating past the setting. The pan, the infinite switch or touch relay behind it and the wiring to the terminal block come first; the element and its temperature limiter follow. A zone that will not switch off means the breaker goes off before anything else.
Usually leads toRadiant element repair
Zones under a smooth glass cooktop that stay dark, heat weakly or cut out, traced to the ribbon element, its limiter or the relay that feeds it.
Shows up asCooktop Element Not Heating
A coil stays black, a radiant ring under the glass never glows, or a zone warms so weakly that a pot of water will not boil.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from Wolf's own guidance for E5 on its cooktops. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Turn the breaker off for 30 seconds, then back on, and test each element.
If an element stays hot after you switch it off, cut the power at the breaker and leave it off.
Book a visit if E5 returns.
What not to do
E5 is not a keypad or fan error. It concerns the switching of power to the elements.
