Error codes

Cooktop
error codes,
read properly.

A code narrows the search and is also the thing most often read wrong: the same characters mean different things on different brands, and a fair number of the codes people look up are not failures at all — they are modes the appliance was left in.

Three things before
you look it up.

A code is a lead, not a verdict. These decide whether the answer you find will be any use.

01

Every character of the code

Copy each letter and digit in order, and note which zone it sits beside and whether it flashes. Take a photo first, because touching the controls or cycling the breaker may clear it.

02

The complete model number

It is usually on a plate under the cooktop, inside the cabinet below. The same code can point to a coil sensor on one make and a stuck key on another.

03

Can you smell gas or scorching near the counter?

That answer decides whether you switch the cooktop off and step outside now, or simply take the next open appointment.

What each kind
of code means.

Codes fall into a handful of families. The family says more about the likely repair than the characters do — and one of them is not a repair at all.

How to read a code

Mode, not a failure

64 codes

A state the cooktop was put in, or one it picked deliberately — a child lock, a demo mode that lights the keys but heats nothing, a residual-heat letter over a zone that is still warm, a prompt that no pan has been found. Nothing has broken and no part is called for.

Burners and ignition

1 code

A burner was turned to light and the cooktop never sensed a flame, or the spark carried on after the flame caught. A damp or greasy electrode and a cap resting off its base are ruled out before the spark module, a knob switch or the valve is changed. Gas in the air matters more than any code: leave the house and call the gas utility once outside.

Radiant elements

6 codes

A ribbon element under the glass, or a coil on an older top, did not heat the way its control asked, or kept heating past the setting. The pan, the infinite switch or touch relay behind it and the wiring to the terminal block come first; the element and its temperature limiter follow. A zone that will not switch off means the breaker goes off before anything else.

Induction power and coils

25 codes

An induction zone could not drive its coil as the board planned: no pan was detected, the current ran too high or too low, or the power stage reported trouble. The pan base, the supply voltage and a clogged air intake are checked before the coil or the power board is replaced, and a top that trips its breaker is left switched off until then.

Temperature and overheat sensors

54 codes

A sensor under the glass or on a board reported a reading the control rejected, or heat climbing past the safe limit — often after an empty pan was left on a zone. The zone is allowed to cool and a loose sensor plug is ruled out before the sensor, the coil assembly or the board is blamed. A top that keeps getting hotter is switched off at the breaker first.

Touch controls and keys

38 codes

A key on the glass was held down too long, pressed with nothing there, or stopped answering altogether. Water, a spill or a pan resting on the key strip is ruled out first, then the touch board and its ribbon cable. If a zone keeps heating while the keys are dead, switch the cooktop off at the breaker.

Boards and communication

50 codes

The touch board and the power board under the glass lost track of each other, or one failed its own start-up check. A power dip, a ribbon or harness pulled loose when the top was fitted, or moisture from a boil-over is ruled out before a board is replaced, and a cooktop that keeps heating while this code shows is switched off at the breaker.

Questions about
the codes.

My cooktop code is not on this site. What should I do?
It just means we have not documented that code yet; one is added only when the maker's own material explains it. Copy the characters, note which zone they appear beside and whether they flash, and type them into the booking form so the technician can check them against your model.
Does a cooktop code mean the same thing on every brand?
No. A code that points to a coil sensor on one make can mean a stuck key or a fan on another, and some makers changed meanings between generations. A cooktop code only makes sense next to the brand on the data plate and, often, the full model string.
Can I clear a cooktop code on my own?
Five minutes with the cooktop breaker off will clear some codes, and one that stays gone afterward was usually a flicker in the supply. A code that returns after every reset is pointing at a genuine problem. When a zone keeps heating with a code on the display, keep the breaker off and book instead of trying again.
The cooktop shows a code but still heats. Is something broken?
Possibly not. Several codes people search for are settings or prompts — a child lock, a demo mode, a residual-heat warning, a message that no pan is on the zone — that change what the cooktop does without any part failing. Each code page marks those and explains how to clear them.
