What ER21
actually means.

A temperature sensor under the touch interface has read more than 85 °C (185 °F), and the cooktop shuts down completely. Bertazzoni gives two routes to it: a hot pan or lid set down on the interface, and heat building up under the controls.

What to do when ER21 shows on the cooktop

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Bertazzoni's own guidance for ER21 on its cooktops. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Take any hot pan or lid off the control area and let the cooktop cool.

02

Switch it on again once it has cooled; Bertazzoni says the code clears when the temperature drops back down.

03

If ER21 keeps returning without anything hot on the controls, book a visit so the insulation and cooling under the interface can be checked.

What not to do

ER21 does not mean a cooking zone has failed. It is about the temperature at the control strip, not the coils under your pans.

What you may
notice with it.

The cooktop problems ER21 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the cooktop before anyone is booked.

Questions
about ER21.

Can I clear ER21 myself?
Take any hot pan or lid off the control area and let the cooktop cool. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does ER21 appear when I slide a hot lid toward the front of my Bertazzoni cooktop?
The lid heats the glass over the touch interface, and the sensor there shuts the cooktop down past 185 °F. Park lids and hot pans away from the control strip.
How long should I wait after ER21 before switching the cooktop back on?
Until the control area has cooled; Bertazzoni ties the restart to the temperature falling below 185 °F. If the code appears again on a cool cooktop, book a visit.
Why does my Bertazzoni PE365T show ER21 when nothing hot is near the keys?
The manual gives a second route to ER21: heat building up under the controls rather than an object sitting on top. When the code shows with the control strip clear, the cooling and insulation beneath the interface are what a technician looks at. Book a visit if it keeps happening.

Still showing ER21?

Book with the code copied exactly, the full model number, and whether there is any smell of gas or burning — with a code in hand, that is where the diagnosis starts.
