Bertazzoni cooktops,
specifically.

Bertazzoni's US cooking surfaces are drop-in and front-control gas cooktops with brass burners, several induction cooktops including one with a built-in downdraft, and pro rangetops with gas burners or induction zones. Every gas burner carries its own thermocouple, and the TFT induction models report problems as E and ER codes on the zone displays.

The Bertazzoni lineup

What is particular
to Bertazzoni.

Bertazzoni sells its cooktops and rangetops in the Professional and Master series; the induction side spans TFT-display models, the XV series and a 36-inch induction cooktop with a built-in downdraft. The model on the serial plate decides which manual, code list and parts apply.

Hold the knob, then let go

Each Bertazzoni gas burner has a thermocouple that shuts off the gas if the flame goes out, and it needs a few seconds of heat before it holds. Bertazzoni says to keep the knob pressed for 5 to 10 seconds after the flame catches; a burner that dies the moment you let go usually has a thermocouple that is not heating or has failed.

E codes for a zone, ER codes for the whole top

On the TFT induction cooktops Bertazzoni splits its codes in two: one starting with E belongs to a single zone or part, and one starting with ER concerns the whole cooktop. That split tells a technician whether to start at one coil circuit or at the control and interface.

The drawer below matters

Bertazzoni names bulky items in a drawer under the cooktop as something that blocks the cooling system and makes a zone, or the whole induction top, switch itself off. A cooktop set above drawers needs the space under the glass kept clear.

Power is shared, and can be capped

The induction models carry a power management module that divides the supply when several zones run at once, giving priority to the last zone set while the others flash their new level. An installer can also lower the cooktop's total power in the service menu, which is why a high level may refuse to select.

Parts

Coils, touch interfaces and power boards are specific to the model and series, and burner parts differ between the gas cooktops and the rangetops. Some parts may need to be ordered after the first visit.

Repair or replace

Burner, igniter and thermocouple work on a Bertazzoni gas cooktop is routine and rarely a reason to replace it. On induction models a single coil or board is normally worth repairing; cracked glass on an older unit is the point where replacing the cooktop deserves a conversation.

Questions about
Bertazzoni cooktops.

Why does my Bertazzoni gas burner go out when I release the knob?
The thermocouple on that burner has not warmed up enough to hold the gas valve open. Hold the knob in for 5 to 10 seconds after the flame lights, as Bertazzoni instructs; if the burner still goes out every time, the thermocouple or its connection needs a technician.
Why do all the igniters click when I light one Bertazzoni burner?
Bertazzoni says every igniter sparks no matter which burner you turn, and that several clicks before the flame catches are normal. Clicking that carries on after the burner is lit, or with every knob off, is worth a visit.
Why does the fan keep running after I switch off my Bertazzoni induction cooktop?
Bertazzoni says the cooling fan runs until the electronics have cooled completely, then stops by itself. A fan that keeps going on a cold cooktop, or never stops, points to a sensor or fan control and is worth a visit.
Why can I not pick the top power level on one Bertazzoni zone?
Either the pan has not been recognized, or the level is higher than the maximum set for the cooktop. Bertazzoni lets the installer cap total power in the service menu, so a capped cooktop will refuse the highest levels; if neither applies, book a visit.
