Three short steps, about a minute.

or call (844) 252-4077

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from GE's own guidance for Lock light on its cooktops. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Turn the control lock knob back to Unlock; on the electric models you press and turn it.

02

Try a burner or element again.

03

If the light stays on with the knob at Unlock, book a visit.

Cleared?

The cooktop came right without a new part. If the same message returns while a zone or burner is on, or the top shuts itself down again mid-meal, treat it as a fresh problem and book it.

What not to do

A GE gas burner that sparks without lighting while the lock light glows does not have a bad igniter. The lock is doing what it was designed to do.

What you may
notice with it.

The cooktop problems Lock light tends to arrive with. Answer these at the cooktop before anyone is booked.

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

A state the cooktop was put in, or one it picked deliberately — a child lock, a demo mode that lights the keys but heats nothing, a residual-heat letter over a zone that is still warm, a prompt that no pan has been found. Nothing has broken and no part is called for.

In GE's own words

Questions
about Lock light.

Can I clear Lock light myself?
Turn the control lock knob back to Unlock; on the electric models you press and turn it.
Why does my GE gas cooktop click but not light?
Check the lock knob first. GE's gas manual says that when the cooktop is locked, gas flow is blocked and the burners spark without igniting.
How do I unlock a GE cooktop with a lock knob?
Turn the control lock knob to Unlock. On GE's knob-control electric models the manual says to press and turn it.
Does the lock light on a GE JP3530 knob cooktop mean the same as on a GE gas cooktop?
On both it glows to show the cooktop is locked. The gas models add that gas flow to the burners is blocked, while on knob-control radiant models such as the JP3530 you release the lock by pressing and turning its knob.

Still showing Lock light?

Book with the code copied exactly, the full model number, and whether there is any smell of gas or burning — with a code in hand, that is where the diagnosis starts.
