What Lock indicator (gas)
actually means.
Some GE Profile built-in gas cooktops have a control lock knob. When it is set, an indicator lights, gas flow to the burners is blocked and the igniters spark without lighting anything.

What to do when Lock indicator (gas) shows on the cooktopKind of codeMode, not a failure
A state the cooktop was put in, or one it picked deliberately — a child lock, a demo mode that lights the keys but heats nothing, a residual-heat letter over a zone that is still warm, a prompt that no pan has been found. Nothing has broken and no part is called for.
Usually leads toNo repair
Turn the control lock knob to Unlocked.
Shows up asCooktop Burner Won't Light
The igniter clicks but the gas never catches, the burner lights only after several tries, or nothing happens at all when the knob is turned.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from GE Profile's own guidance for Lock indicator (gas) on its cooktops. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Turn the control lock knob to Unlocked.
Light the burner again.
If the burners still spark without lighting with the lock off, book a visit.
Cleared?
The cooktop came right without a new part. If the same message returns while a zone or burner is on, or the top shuts itself down again mid-meal, treat it as a fresh problem and book it.
What not to do
Sparking without a flame while the lock light is on is not an igniter failure. The lock keeps the gas off by design.
