GE Profile cooktops,
specifically.
GE Profile is where GE Appliances puts its connected cooktops: induction models with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth pairing and a Precision Cooking mode, touch-control radiant models, and gas cooktops that include a downdraft version. More of a Profile cooktop's behavior lives in its software, so a visit often starts with settings and pairing before parts.

All cooktop typesWhat is particular
to GE Profile.
GE Profile cooktops include 30- and 36-inch induction models (PHP series), touch-control radiant models (PEP series) and built-in gas cooktops, one of them with downdraft. The series letters on the model label tell a technician whether software, a coil board or a gas valve is likely involved.
Power is shared inside zones
A GE Profile induction cooktop splits its elements into zones, two on a 30-inch model and three on a 36-inch. When both elements in a zone run and one is on Hi, the Hi setting is reduced, which owners sometimes read as a weak element.
Precision Cooking talks to paired devices
Profile induction models can hold a set temperature with a paired probe or supported pan. When that mode cancels or refuses to start, GE's own troubleshooting looks at batteries, pairing and software updates through the SmartHQ app before the cooktop itself.
A gas cooktop with its own downdraft
GE Profile lists a 30-inch built-in gas cooktop with downdraft ventilation. That adds a blower and ducting under the counter to the usual burners and valves, and both need checking when the vent side stops working.
Induction makes noises on purpose
GE's Profile induction manual calls buzzing, humming and a high whistle between neighboring elements normal, and says undersized pans can make a clicking, zipping sound while the control searches for them. Those sounds point to cookware first.
Parts
Induction coil boards, touch controls and glass for Profile cooktops are model-specific and may need ordering. Gas burner parts and igniters are more commonly on hand.
Repair or replace
Profile induction and radiant cooktops are usually worth repairing when a single board, sensor or element fails. Cracked glass on an induction unit is the costliest single repair, and it is the usual point to compare against a new cooktop.
