What F61
actually means.
F61 is one of KitchenAid's wider codes. Its page lists the touch control, the power control module, the wiring between them and the electrical supply, so both the appliance and the house circuit are in play.

What to do when F61 shows on the cooktopKind of codeBoards and communication
The touch board and the power board under the glass lost track of each other, or one failed its own start-up check. A power dip, a ribbon or harness pulled loose when the top was fitted, or moisture from a boil-over is ruled out before a board is replaced, and a cooktop that keeps heating while this code shows is switched off at the breaker.
Usually leads toTouch control repair
Glass touch keys and sliders that ignore a finger, start zones by themselves or stay locked, traced to the keys, the control board or the lock setting.
Shows up asCooktop Controls Unresponsive
Touch keys or a slider do nothing, the display lights but ignores every press, or a knob turns without starting its burner or element.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from KitchenAid's own guidance for F61 on its cooktops. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Switch the breaker off for one minute, then back on.
Watch the display for a minute.
If F61 returns, book a visit; the technician can check supply voltage along with the cooktop electronics.
What not to do
F61 is not a cookware issue, and it is not always inside the cooktop, since KitchenAid includes the electrical supply. It also does not single out one board, because KitchenAid's list runs from the touch control to the power control module.
