A U on a Maytag cooktop can mean three things by Maytag's own list: no pan was detected on the zone, the Keep Warm function is running, or there is a problem with the electrical supply. The first two are normal operation.

Check whether Keep Warm is switched on and turn it off if you did not intend it.
If U remains, reset the breaker for one minute; book a visit if it will not clear.
