Book a visit

Three short steps, about a minute.

or call (844) 252-4077

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Whirlpool's own guidance for C81 on its cooktops. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Turn every surface control off and let the glass cool for about five minutes.

02

If the cooktop is not above a wall oven, open the cabinet doors below and move anything that sits close to the underside.

03

If an oven below is running, switch it off, then cut the cooktop's breaker for one minute and restore it; if C81 or C83 comes back, book a visit.

Still there?

It usually turns into induction board and coil repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

C81 is not a burned-out element. The cooktop protected itself from heat, so the fix often starts with clearing the space under the counter rather than with a part.

What you may
notice with it.

The cooktop problems C81 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the cooktop before anyone is booked.

Questions
about C81.

Can I clear C81 myself?
Turn every surface control off and let the glass cool for about five minutes. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does my Whirlpool cooktop show C81 only when the oven below is baking?
The oven under the counter adds heat to the space the cooktop needs to shed its own. Whirlpool's page tells you to turn the oven off when C81 appears; if the pair cannot run together without the code, the installation clearances are worth a look during a visit.
Can the drawer under my Whirlpool cooktop cause C83?
It can. Whirlpool asks owners to open the cabinet and move anything that may block airflow to the bottom of the cooktop, so a packed drawer or shelf right under the unit is the first thing to check.
Does C83 on a Whirlpool cooktop need a different fix from C81?
Whirlpool puts both on one overheating page with the same steps. Let the glass cool, clear the cabinet space under the cooktop, turn off any oven running below, and book a visit if either code keeps returning after a one-minute breaker reset.

Book with the code copied exactly, the full model number, and whether there is any smell of gas or burning — with a code in hand, that is where the diagnosis starts.
