Er shows when a zone was still switched on during a power failure longer than 10 seconds, or after a control action the cooktop does not accept. Returning the knob to off resets that zone's controls.

A key on the glass was held down too long, pressed with nothing there, or stopped answering altogether. Water, a spill or a pan resting on the key strip is ruled out first, then the touch board and its ribbon cable. If a zone keeps heating while the keys are dead, switch the cooktop off at the breaker.

After an outage, turn every knob that was on back to OFF before cooking again.
If Er stays after the reset and the knob will not work, book a visit.
