Frigidaire cooktops,
specifically.

Frigidaire sells gas, electric and induction cooktops in the US under its Frigidaire, Gallery and Professional names. Its Professional induction cooktop is run by knobs, each with a small window that shows messages such as HE, Pb and Er.

The Frigidaire lineup

What is particular
to Frigidaire.

Frigidaire's current US cooktops span Frigidaire, Gallery and Professional models in gas, radiant electric and induction. The Professional induction uses knobs and display codes; the touch-control Gallery and Frigidaire induction models show a hot-surface letter and little else.

A message window over every knob

The knob-controlled Professional induction cooktop has a digital window above each knob for heat settings and messages. Reading which knob shows the message tells you which zone is involved, except for C0, which always appears on the left.

TempLock holds a set temperature

Gallery induction models use a temperature sensor so TempLock can hold a pan at a steady heat, adding power when cold food goes in. A zone that surges when you add batter is doing what TempLock is meant to do.

An idle cooktop turns itself off

If no pan is detected on any zone for 30 seconds, the whole Frigidaire induction cooktop shuts off, and a zone whose pan is lifted turns off after 30 seconds. Short shut-offs during cooking often trace back to this.

Two zones can work as one

The Bridge function joins the two left zones for a griddle or other long pan. It only appears when both left zones detect cookware.

Parts

Induction boards and knob assemblies are specific to each model, and the model and serial label decides the part. Grates, burner caps and coil-style parts are easier to find.

Repair or replace

A burner, igniter or single element problem is worth repairing. When an older cooktop has cracked glass and a failed board at the same time, a replacement that fits the same cutout is worth comparing.

Questions about
Frigidaire cooktops.

What does HE mean on my Frigidaire Professional cooktop?
HE is the hot element message. It stays while the glass over that zone is hot, and you can turn the zone on again while it shows.
Why did my Frigidaire induction cooktop turn itself off?
If no pan is detected on any zone for 30 seconds, the whole cooktop switches off. Put the pan on before or right after turning a zone on.
What does Er on a Frigidaire knob display mean?
A zone was left on through a power cut longer than 10 seconds, or a control step was not accepted. Turn the knob to OFF to reset it.
Can I use a griddle on my Frigidaire induction cooktop?
Gallery models have a Bridge function that joins the two left zones for a long pan such as a griddle.
