Smeg ceramic cooktop
showing HItE

If cutting the front zones does not bring the electronic board's temperature down, Smeg's ceramic cooktops stop all the zones and show HItE on some models.

Three short steps, about a minute.

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Smeg's own guidance for HItE on its cooktops. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Switch the cooktop off and leave it to cool.

02

Check that the cabinet or drawer under the cooktop is not packed tight against it.

03

If HItE returns after a short cooking session, book a visit.

Still there?

It usually turns into induction board and coil repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

HItE is not a burnt-out element. The elements are being held off on purpose while the board cools.

What you may
notice with it.

The cooktop problems HItE tends to arrive with. Answer these at the cooktop before anyone is booked.

Questions
about HItE.

Can I clear HItE myself?
Switch the cooktop off and leave it to cool. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
What is the difference between H t and HItE on a Smeg ceramic cooktop?
H and t mean the front zones have been cut back for heat; HItE means the board stayed hot and every zone is off. Both clear as the cooktop cools.
Should I switch the breaker off when my Smeg shows HItE?
It is not required; the cooktop has already stopped heating. Let it cool, and book a visit if HItE keeps returning.
Why does my Smeg ceramic cooktop never show HItE, only H and t?
Smeg says HItE appears only on some models. The step it describes, every zone cut because the electronic board stayed hot, belongs to the same protection. A cooktop with all zones stopped after H and t has reached that second stage even without the word on the display.

Still showing HItE?

Book with the code copied exactly, the full model number, and whether there is any smell of gas or burning — with a code in hand, that is where the diagnosis starts.
