Smeg induction cooktop
showing E2

On Smeg's SIMU induction cooktops, E2 comes with a two-part check from Smeg: the pan has to be suitable for induction, and it must not be empty.

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Smeg's own guidance for E2 on its cooktops. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Turn the zone off and let the cooktop cool down.

02

Check that the pan is induction-ready and has food or liquid in it before trying again.

03

If E2 keeps returning with a suitable, filled pan, book a visit.

What not to do

On a Smeg ceramic cooktop the same E2 means something else, a key problem, so check which type you own before reading on. Nor is it a supply or wiring message, since Smeg's own remedy is a suitable pan with something in it and time to cool.

What you may
notice with it.

The cooktop problems E2 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the cooktop before anyone is booked.

Questions
about E2.

Can I clear E2 myself?
Turn the zone off and let the cooktop cool down. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why did E2 appear when a pot boiled dry on my Smeg induction cooktop?
An empty pan heats up fast on induction, and E2 is Smeg's signal that it got too hot. Let the cooktop cool, refill or replace the pan and restart.
Does E2 on a Smeg induction cooktop mean the coil is damaged?
Not by itself. Smeg lists it among the codes an owner can clear; only if it keeps coming back with proper pans is a visit needed.
Why does E2 on my Smeg SIMU cooktop come back when I preheat a dry pan?
Smeg's check for E2 asks for two things: an induction-ready pan and a pan that is not empty. Preheating a dry pan breaks the second condition, so add oil, food or liquid first and let the cooktop cool before restarting.
