behind the guides.

The technicians sent out on the cooktop visits booked through this site. What they write comes from lifting tops out of countertop cutouts and working in the cabinet underneath, checked against the manufacturer's installation and use-and-care guides wherever those are published.

Who writes
the guides.

Our cooktop articles come from the people who kneel in front of open base cabinets to reach the wiring, gas line and boards beneath a built-in cooking surface. They start from the requests that reach us most: a gas burner that ticks but never catches, a glass zone that stays dark, an induction top that ignores the pan, or a rangetop valve that will not shut the flame down.

We leave out makes we do not service and codes that no manufacturer has published. When a use-and-care guide or a safety agency covers a point, the article links straight to it; when a statement comes only from our own visits, the article tells you that.

How a guide
is written.

Four rules every guide on this site follows, from the first question to the last revision.

01

Taken from cooktop service calls

Subjects follow what owners tell us when they book a cooktop visit, along with the simple checks, such as a burner cap sitting off center or a control lock left on, that sometimes clear the problem before anyone arrives.

02

Checked against the maker's own guides

Cutout sizes, gas and electrical supply details, model differences and what each code means are taken from the manufacturer's installation instructions, use-and-care guide or service material, linked next to the sentence that relies on them.

03

Gas, fire and shock safety in the agencies' words

Whatever we say about a gas smell, a burner that stays lit, cracked glass, burns or electric shock follows guidance from the CPSC and similar agencies, repeated in their terms and linked for anyone who wants the source.

04

Dates you can see

Every cooktop article carries the date it went up and the date of its last revision, and we revise it when a manufacturer or agency changes the page it points to.
