Gaggenau cooktops,
specifically.

Gaggenau sells gas and induction cooktops in the US in its 400 and 200 series, plus Vario modules such as Teppan Yaki, an electric grill and downdraft ventilation that join into one cooking area. Its gas burners relight on their own and shut the gas off if they cannot.

The Gaggenau lineup

What is particular
to Gaggenau.

The 400 series (15 to 36 inches) and 200 series (12 to 36 inches) include gas and induction cooktops and Vario modules, and a flush or surface-mounted full-surface induction cooktop comes in 30 and 36 inches. The CI 292 602 200 series induction manual supplies the display codes on this page.

Knobs can live on the cabinet front

On 400 series cooktops the illuminated stainless steel knobs can be set into the vertical cabinet front or the countertop beside the unit. That puts wiring runs between knobs and burners that a technician has to trace.

A flame that relights itself

Gaggenau says its gas burners automatically reignite if the flame blows out, and switch the gas off if that fails. A burner that clicks back on in a draft is normal; one that shuts off after failed attempts needs a look.

One cooking area built from modules

Vario lets you line up Teppan Yaki, induction, gas, grill and downdraft modules side by side. Each module is a separate appliance, so a problem is traced module by module.

Switch off at the panel when it acts up

Gaggenau's induction manual warns that a cooktop that has shut itself off and cannot be operated may switch on later by itself. The instruction is to switch off the breaker and get service.

Parts

Gaggenau parts are specific to each module and are identified by the model number on the rating plate. Some parts may have to be ordered, so a visit may take more than one trip.

Repair or replace

Vario modules are built into custom countertops and matched to their neighbors, so repairing one is almost always better than replacing the set. A single module can be replaced on its own if it is beyond repair.

Questions about
Gaggenau cooktops.

Why does my Gaggenau gas burner click again after it is lit?
If the flame blows out, Gaggenau burners relight on their own. Frequent relighting in a still kitchen suggests a dirty burner or a sensing problem.
My Gaggenau induction cooktop switched off and will not respond. What now?
Gaggenau says to switch off the circuit breaker, because the cooktop may turn on by itself later, and then call for service.
Can one Gaggenau Vario module be repaired without touching the others?
Yes. Each module is its own appliance with its own connections.
Does a drawer under a Gaggenau induction cooktop matter?
Yes. The manual asks for at least ¾ inch between drawer contents and the fan inlet under the cooktop.
