to Bosch.
Bosch's US cooktops include 24-, 30- and 36-inch gas models (Benchmark cooktops use FlameSelect), frameless electric and induction cooktops in the 500, 800 and Benchmark series, and the RGM8658UC gas rangetop. The code list differs between electric, induction and gas models.
Gas burners need a held knob
Bosch gas rangetops use a thermocouple on each burner: you press the knob in for a few seconds after lighting until the flame heats it. A burner that goes out when released is the classic sign of a thermocouple that is not sensing heat.
A wet igniter can spark on
Bosch warns that a wet or dirty igniter may spark without lighting the burner or keep sparking with a flame present. Cleaning and drying the igniter comes before replacing the spark module.
The drawer below needs room
Bosch induction cooktops cool through a fan on the underside, and Bosch asks for at least ¾ inch between drawer contents and the fan inlet. Overheating codes such as F2 and F4 often trace back to a packed drawer.
A dedicated simmer burner
The rear-right burner on the rangetop is built for OptiSim, a very low simmer for sauces. A burner that seems weak there may simply be the simmer burner doing its job.
Parts
Induction generators, touch controls and gas valves are specific to the model. Burner caps and grates are simpler to match.
Repair or replace
Igniters, thermocouples, fans and single zones are ordinary repairs on a Bosch cooktop. When a frameless glass top cracks on an older model, the cost of the glass assembly is what makes replacement worth comparing.
