Fisher & Paykel cooktops,
specifically.

Fisher & Paykel sells induction and gas cooktops, 48-inch Series 9 gas rangetops, and modular tops that combine induction, gas and Teppanyaki pieces in one counter. Its US induction guides describe error codes as an E or Er with digits and send most of them to a technician.

The Fisher & Paykel lineup

What is particular
to Fisher & Paykel.

The US cooktops come in Minimal, Contemporary and Professional styles, from 12-inch auxiliary modules to 48-inch rangetops. The model decides whether a guide lists codes at all, since the modular guide names only E codes and the older induction guides describe them in general.

Modules side by side

Fisher & Paykel's modular cooktops let induction, gas and Teppanyaki units be combined in one run of counter. Each module is diagnosed on its own, so we note which unit shows the problem before we open the cabinet.

Ventilation in the glass

The 36-inch Series 9 induction cooktop has ventilation built into the cooktop, with a grease filter that can flag itself for cleaning. When suction drops, the filter and its alert come before the fan motor.

P means cool down first

If P flashes when you try PowerBoost, the cooktop is holding back full power to protect itself from heat. Letting it cool is the answer; a P that appears on a cold cooktop is a different matter.

A fan you should not cut off

Fisher & Paykel says the induction cooktop's cooling fan may keep running after you switch the cooktop off, and asks you not to cut the power at the wall while it runs. Doing so can leave the electronics hot.

Parts

Induction generators, touch controls and ventilation parts for the integrated-ventilation cooktop are model-specific and may be ordered after the first visit.

Repair or replace

A modular Fisher & Paykel top can often be fixed one module at a time, which keeps the rest of the counter as it is. When an older full-width induction top needs its main board and keypad together, replacement is worth pricing.

Questions about
Fisher & Paykel cooktops.

Why does P flash on my Fisher and Paykel induction cooktop?
P flashes when PowerBoost is temporarily unavailable because the cooktop is protecting itself from overheating. Let it cool and try again; if P appears on a cold cooktop, book a visit.
My Fisher and Paykel cooktop shows -0- and nothing heats. What is wrong?
Fisher & Paykel says -0- in the timer display with heat settings that do nothing means the cooktop is in Display mode, the showroom setting. It needs to be taken out of that mode; book a visit if you cannot clear it.
Is it normal for my Fisher and Paykel induction cooktop to hum on high?
Yes. The maker says a low hum on high settings, especially PowerBoost, comes from the induction technology and should fade when you turn the heat down. Crackling from layered pans is also normal.
What should I do when an E or Er code appears on my Fisher and Paykel cooktop?
Write down the letters and numbers, switch the power to the cooktop off at the breaker, then book a visit with the code. The modular guide adds a reset first: hold the power key off, wait a few seconds and turn it back on.
