SKS cooktops,
specifically.

Signature Kitchen Suite (SKS) sells 30- and 36-inch gas cooktops, Flex induction cooktops run from an LCD touch screen, and 36- and 48-inch pro rangetops, some combining gas burners with an induction section and a sous vide water bath. On the rangetops the electric modules report through LEDs on their knobs.

The SKS lineup

What is particular
to SKS.

SKS cooktops come as SKSGT gas and SKSIT Flex induction models, with UPCG gas cooktops on the same page; the rangetops are the all-gas SKSRT360S, SKSRT360GS and SKSRT480GS and the dual-fuel SKSRT360SIS and SKSRT480SIS. The model number on the label decides which owner's manual applies.

The rear burners simmer in pulses

On SKS gas cooktops the rear large burners have an Extra Low Simmer that turns the flame off and on at set intervals, with longer gaps from S3 down to S1. SKS says the burner can look switched off during it, so a flame that comes and goes on that setting is normal.

Rangetop codes live on the knob

On the dual-fuel rangetops the induction section reports F33 to F45 and the sous vide module F62 on the LED of its knob, with beeping. SKS's first step for both is to turn the knob to the central OFF position.

A water bath in the counter

The SIS rangetops include a sous vide module with its own water bath, which beeps if it runs without enough water and shows HS when the water is very hot. Those alerts are about the water, not the electronics.

Sabbath mode shows Sb

In Sabbath mode an SKS rangetop disables its timers and electric cooking modules, keeps the gas burners working and shows Sb, and the mode does not end on its own. An induction zone that will not start may simply be waiting for Sabbath mode to be turned off.

Parts

Touch-screen, induction and sous vide parts are specific to each SKS model, and the dual-fuel rangetops carry more electronics than the all-gas ones. A board or module may have to be ordered once the first visit has pinned down the cause.

Repair or replace

An SKS cooktop or rangetop is normally worth repairing, whether the job is a burner, a spark igniter, an induction board or a sous vide heater. Replacement is worth talking through only when the glass or several modules have failed together.

Questions about
SKS cooktops.

Why does my SKS gas burner keep turning off and on?
If it is a rear large burner set to Extra Low Simmer, that is by design: the flame cycles at set intervals, and SKS says it can look as if the burner is off. On any other setting, a flame that keeps going out is worth a visit.
My SKS induction cooktop shows F1, F5 or FC. What should I do?
SKS says the electronic control has detected a problem. Turn the cooktop's power off and back on to clear the code; if the same code returns, book a visit and note which one you saw.
Why is the hot surface light still on on my SKS cooktop?
SKS calls it normal: the indicator stays on until the glass cools, and it can take longer when the area around the cooktop is warm. If it stays lit on cold glass, book a visit.
Why won't my SKS induction cooktop turn on?
Check whether Lockout or Clean Lock is on. Lockout stops most controls until it is turned off in the settings, and Clean Lock locks the controls for 30 seconds; if neither is set, book a visit.
