Hestan cooktops,
specifically.

Hestan's 2026 indoor catalog lists gas rangetops in 30, 36 and 48 inches, some with a griddle, and 30- and 36-inch induction rangetops, but no drop-in cooktop. An earlier smart rangetop (KRTS) added a Smart Burner that talks to Hestan Cue pans and shows ER codes.

The Hestan lineup

What is particular
to Hestan.

The KRT gas rangetops (KRT304, KRT365, KRT364GD, KRT485GD) share one manual with the KRTS smart rangetop, and the KRTI induction rangetops are separate. The model decides whether ER codes apply at all, since only the Smart Burner shows them.

Every burner has its own spark

Each sealed burner on a Hestan rangetop has its own spark module with flame sensing, and relights on its own if the flame is blown out. A single burner that sparks with a flame showing points to that burner's module or wiring, not the whole top.

Four seconds to light

Hestan says a burner should light in under four seconds and that sparking stops once it does. An occasional spark on a very low simmer is usually a draft in the room.

A burner that pairs with a pan

The Smart Burner on the KRTS rangetop links to a battery-powered Hestan Cue pan by Bluetooth for temperature control. Several of its ER codes are about the pan or its battery, not the burner.

Downdraft is ruled out

Hestan requires a hood above its gas rangetops and says not to use downdraft ventilation or an over-the-counter microwave vent. A rangetop that runs hot or smoky in the kitchen may simply be under-ventilated.

Parts

Hestan lists an indoor parts distributor. Spark modules and burner parts are the common orders; Smart Burner parts may take longer to source.

Repair or replace

Because each burner has its own spark module, most Hestan ignition problems are a single-part repair. A rangetop with several failed modules and a worn valve set is the case where replacement becomes worth comparing.

Questions about
Hestan cooktops.

Why does my Hestan rangetop keep sparking after the burner lights?
Hestan says sparking should stop once the burner lights; an occasional spark on very low simmer is usually a draft. Sparking with a steady flame points to a wiring or module problem, so book a visit.
What does ER05 mean on my Hestan rangetop?
On the Smart Burner, ER05 means the burner could not be lit after several re-ignition tries, so the cooking cycle stopped. Clean the burner ports and the igniter tip, then try again; if it repeats, book a visit.
Can I put a downdraft vent behind my Hestan rangetop?
No. Hestan's manual requires a hood above the rangetop and says not to use downdraft ventilation or a microwave vent combination, because they cannot move enough air for its output.
