Café cooktops,
specifically.

Café builds all four kinds of cooking surface this site covers: gas cooktops, touch-control radiant and induction cooktops, and commercial-style gas rangetops in 36- and 48-inch widths. Its design touches, from swappable hardware to Chef Connect links with the ventilation, sit on top of the same GE Appliances engineering, so the repair questions are practical ones about gas, glass and boards.

The Café lineup

What is particular
to Café.

Café sells 30- and 36-inch gas, radiant and induction cooktops and 36- and 48-inch commercial-style gas rangetops. The model prefix tells a technician which: CGP for gas cooktops, CEP for radiant, CHP for induction and CGU for rangetops.

Rangetops with a leveled griddle

Café's 48-inch rangetop can include an integrated griddle, and the manual has you level it with clamping screws once the unit is in place, or tilt it slightly forward so grease runs off. A griddle that pools grease at the back is often an adjustment, not a part.

A wok grate over the Inspiral burner

On the Café rangetop, the grate above the front right Inspiral burner holds a wok from 14 to 16 inches across without a ring, and Café warns against adding a wok support ring. Flame complaints on that burner start with how the grate and pan sit.

Chef Connect ties burners to the vent

Select Café cooktops pair with a compatible vent or over-the-range microwave so that switching on a burner turns on the fan and surface lights. When the vent stops following the cooktop, pairing is checked before either appliance is opened.

Glide Touch and a dedicated circuit

Café's electric and induction cooktops use Glide Touch controls with 19 heat settings and, Café says, generally need a dedicated 208/240V connection rather than a household outlet. A cooktop that loses power or trips its breaker is checked at the circuit as well as in the cooktop.

Parts

Burners, igniters and grates for Café gas models are usually quick to get. Induction boards, glass tops and Café's customizable hardware are model-specific and may be ordered after the first visit.

Repair or replace

Café rangetops and gas cooktops are built around serviceable burners, valves and igniters and are almost always worth repairing. On induction and radiant models, a glass top plus a board at the same time is the case where replacement comes up.

Questions about
Café cooktops.

Why won't my Café rangetop burner light during a power outage?
Café's rangetop uses electric ignition. The manual lists an unplugged or unpowered rangetop, a tripped breaker, gas that is off and dirty or misplaced burner parts as causes of burners that will not light, so check power first.
My Café rangetop griddle collects grease at the back. Is it broken?
Probably not. Café's manual explains how to level the griddle with its clamping screws, or give it a slight forward slope so grease drains, once the rangetop is in place.
Why doesn't my vent turn on with my Café cooktop anymore?
Café's Chef Connect links select cooktops with a compatible vent or microwave. If the link drops, the pairing needs to be redone before anyone looks for a failed part.
Can I plug my Café induction cooktop into a regular outlet?
Café says its electric and induction cooktops generally need a dedicated 208/240V connection, not a standard household outlet. Check the installation instructions for your model.
