Dacor cooktops,
specifically.

Dacor, now part of Samsung, sells 30- and 36-inch gas and induction cooktops and 36- and 48-inch gas rangetops in the US. Its Modernist induction cooktop carries Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, a light effect that imitates a flame, and a short list of letter-and-number information codes.

The Dacor lineup

What is particular
to Dacor.

Dacor's current tops come in the Modernist and Contemporary styles, with Modernist induction cooktops such as the DTI30M977BB and DTI36M977BB. The model number decides the code list, since the induction manual's information codes do not apply to a gas top.

A flame you can see on glass

The Modernist induction cooktop projects a Virtual Flame onto the pan so you can judge the heat by eye. Dacor states plainly that it is a lighting effect, not a real flame, so a flame image that fails is a display repair, not a gas one.

Keep the signal areas clear

The glass has marked Wi-Fi and Bluetooth areas, and Dacor warns that a pan or other object left on them can interfere with the signal and cause a communication failure. Clearing those areas comes before any board is tested.

The fan keeps running

After cooking, the internal cooling fan may run for 10 to 20 minutes depending on the internal sensor. A fan still turning after the top is off is normal; an A2 code means the fan motor itself cannot run.

Voltage matters here

The Modernist induction top expects 208 to 240 volts, and a UP code means the supply is outside that window. On this code we check the circuit feeding the cooktop before we touch the cooktop.

Parts

Induction boards, fan motors and touch controls are matched to the exact model and may be ordered after the first visit. Gas cooktop igniters and caps are more routine.

Repair or replace

Most Dacor induction codes point to one sensor, board, fan or keypad, which is a single-part repair. A cracked glass top on an older model is where replacing the cooktop becomes a fair comparison.

Questions about
Dacor cooktops.

Why is my Dacor induction cooktop fan still running after I turned it off?
Dacor says the internal fan may keep cooling the electronics for 10 to 20 minutes after cooking, depending on the internal sensor. That is normal; book a visit if the fan never stops or the cooktop shows A2.
What does UP mean on a Dacor induction cooktop?
UP means the supply voltage is too high or too low for the cooktop, which is built for 208 to 240 volts. Switch the cooktop off at the breaker and have the circuit checked before using it again.
My Dacor cooktop shows d0. Is it broken?
Not necessarily. d0 appears when a key has been pressed for more than eight seconds, often because the keypad is wet or something rests on it. Dry the panel, restart with the power key, and book a visit if d0 keeps returning.
Is the flame on my Dacor induction cooktop real?
No. The Virtual Flame is a light projected for reference, and the pan is heated by induction. If the light stops working while heating is normal, the display side needs attention.
